Poul Kjaerholm was born in Oster Vra, Denmark in 1929. He began his professional career in 1948 as a carpenter in the famed workshop Grombech. Passionate about furniture design, he went on to complement his hand on knowledge by studying at the Danish school of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. After graduation he immediately set about creating his furniture collection. He chose as his main material steel. Indeed, he especially liked the reflection of light upon steel works. Awards include the prestigious Lunning Prize in 1958 and the Grand Prix of Trennali in Milan in 1960.
