Eero Aarnio (1932 - ****) Eero Aarnio was born July 21, 1932 in Helsinki. He studied art and design to become an interior designer. Although his creations made him a leading figure of the Pop design movement, Aarnio rejects the concept of ephemeral and disposable trend. His conceptions are mainly realised in fiberglass which proved its strong potential. The Pastil chair which won the American Industrial Design award in 1968 and the legendary Ball Chair remain icons of modern design. According to Aarnio, "a chair is a chair ... but a seat does not have to be a chair".
